Super-silent Gepard signed up for the fleet
03.12.2001

An official act transferring and commissioning the Russian navy’s first nuclear-powered submarine of the 21st century, the Gepard, was signed at the Sevmashpredpriyatiye industrial plant at Severodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region of northern Russia today (Monday.)

Navy commander-in-chief Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov, deputy commander-in-chief Vice-Admiral Mikhail Barskov, and Sevmashpredpriyatiye Director-General David Pashayev completed formalities there, sources told Interfax news agency. The report said the vessel, claimed to be the world’s fastest, and super-silent, has been accepted by the navy’s Northern Fleet.
